Here’s a glimpse of some of the most notable landmark projects shaping our history

1983

Modern Engineering Company (MEC) was established in Egypt as the sole agent of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation for elevators & escalators. Supplying and installing the first Mitsubishi elevator in Egypt, located in the Giza area.

1984-1989

  • Aswan Oberoi Hotel

MELCO-MEC introduced Egypt’s first high-speed Mitsubishi elevators (3.5 m/sec) at the World Trade Center, setting a new industry benchmark. It secured its first 5-star hotel project at Le Méridien Le Caire, which also featured the company’s first spiral lift, showcasing its engineering innovation. MELCOMEC expanded beyond Cairo with installations at Sonesta Port Said and the Aswan Oberoi Hotel. In 1986, the company began replacing another elevator brands, reinforcing trust in its reliability and performance

1990-1994

  • Marriott Hurghada

MELCO-MEC expanded in hospitality with projects like Mena House Oberoi, Winter Palace Luxor, and Hurghada Marriott. It also grew in the government and commercial sectors, with installations at the Presidential Palace, Shoubra Court, and Nile Hilton Tower Extension.

1995-1998

  • Bibliotheca Alexandrina

MELCO-MEC secured Bibliotheca Alexandrina as its first monumental national project, supplying 17 elevators. This milestone marked the company’s entry into large-scale public and cultural developments, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of advanced vertical transportation solutions in Egypt.

1999

  • In Memory of Eng. Mohamed Shawy, visionary CEO

MEC became a joint venture with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO), forming MELCO-MEC. This move fueled growth in Egypt’s elevator and escalator industry, with major projects including installations at the TV Building

2000-2005

  • Hayatt Regency

MELCO-MEC delivered major projects including San Stefano Complex, Nile City Towers, Dreamland, Kerosiez Alexandria, and Grand Makadi Hotel. It also began ongoing work in Smart Village and became the first in Egypt to install a substantial travelator at Cairo Air Mall. Other key projects included the Eastern Company, Makadi Palace Hotel, and Hyatt Regency.

2006-2011

  • Downtown Mall

MELCO-MEC secured major projects such as the Saudi Embassy, Bank Misr Tower, Porto Marina Resort, and Radisson Hotel Alexandria. The company also played a key role in the Madinaty project, securing 202 units, and worked on developments like Dusit Thani LakeView, Marriott Zamalek, and several Palm Hills projects. Other significant projects included Nile University, Downtown Mall New Cairo, Ain Shams University, and Cairo Sheraton.

2012-2017

  • Melcomec Training Center

MELCO-MEC secured a range of major projects,
including Sonesta Sharm el-Sheik, Porto Cairo Mall, Steigenberger Aldaw Resort Hotel, and Rixos Alamein.The company also contributed to key developments such as Rofayda Hospital, Cairo Festival City Mall, the St. Regis Hotel in the New Capital, and Mega Mall in Sheikh Zayed. Additionally, projects like New Cairo Mall, Baron Hotel, and Semouha Grand View Towers further solidified MELCO-MEC’s market presence. In 2015 we opened Melcomec Training Center

2018-2024

  • Eng. Mehry Shawy The Chairman & Managing Director | From The 20th Anniversary Celebration

MELCO-MEC delivered key projects including Almasa
Alamein Towers, King Salman University, Japanese
University, and major developments in the New Capital like the Central Bank, Admin Capital Authority, GIU, and Knowledge City. In hospitality, MELCO-MEC served Hyatt Regency Giza, Rixos Hurghada, and Movenpick Sharm El Sheikh. Other highlights: ZED Towers, People Square, Capital Mal, and Saja 1 & 2. In 2019, MELCO-MEC celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Mena House Hotel, joined by leaders from MELCO-MEC and Mitsubishi Electric Japan
